Under the Dome TV show cancelled
Under the Dome was a 2009 novel by Stephen King which was all about what happened to a small town when it was suddenly trapped inside an enormous, indestructible dome. It was a typically entertaining and shlocky affair from the horror writer, retaining the long-winded nature which has become a part of his writing more and more in recent years.
It never seemed like an ideal candidate for a TV adaptation but one surfaced nonetheless, finally reaching screens in 2013 after a series of developmental delays. With creative input from the likes of Niels Adren Oplev for the first episode and a decent cast including Rachelle Lefevre, Britt Robertson and Dean Norris it was watchable enough, if never really transcending into anything special.
It doesn't come as a major surprise then to learn that CBS has cancelled the show, with the currently airing third season to be its last. There are only two episodes left to air in season 3, making it likely that the storylines won't be adequately finalised for many characters.
That's a shame for fans of the piece, but the showrunners have said that they did manage to craft the last current episode as some kind of finale. Perhaps they had an idea things wouldn't be continuing. Viewership has been declining season on season, with the average for the latest episodes down to 6.25 from a season 1 spike of 13.53 million.
