VIDEO: There could be an X-Men and Fantastic Four crossover movie
Long-time X-Men director Bryan Singer (he's helmed 4 to date) has been chatting to Yahoo Movies for the home video release of X-Men Days of Future Past - The Rogue Cut and dropped some hints about the future of both franchises. And he's pretty clear that there are plans in the works for a bit of a superhero mashup:
In some ways, this seems like a natural move for both franchises, especially as everyone is obsessed with the box office potential of merging different universes and these are the two main properties Fox owns, along with the developing Deadpool movie. Singer doesn't have much in the way of detail on the how it would actually work but his tease is tantalising:
It pretty much would have to, given that the new Fantastic Four is set in the modern day and the main X-Men timeline currently in play takes place in the 80s, focussing on younger versions of the mutants we've come to know from the original movies. That said, no one is jumping onto the idea straight away, there are some practicalites to consider:
The subtext here is that we'll have to see how the films perform at the box office. Days of Future Past was the biggest X movie ever but the previous crack at Fantastic Four was a bit of a disaster. And Fox won't want to taint its biggest superhero franchise with something audiences don't have an appetite for. The obvious other question is where will the wacky Deadpool figure into this equation? Especially with the news that Ryan Reynolds doesn't plan on donning the costume again.
