Skyfall and Spectre director won't do another Bond
There's a new Bond film set for release in October 2015, and with the massive worldwide success of Skyfall in 2012 all eyes will be on the return of the same team including Jimmy B himself Daniel Craig and director Sam Mendes. But it seems that reunion won't be happening again, because the director is moving on.
Talking to the BBC, Sam Mendes has said he's out of the Bond business once Spectre hits screens in October. Though he has said this before: "I said no to the last one and then ended up doing it, and was pilloried by all my friends. But I do think this is probably it."
With a franchise like Bond every film is a massive undertaking - from the lengthy pre-production and actual daily shooting to the months of editing and, inevitably, extra months of press and promotion. For Mendes it has been pretty much a full time job for the last five years, consuming every part of his life and taking him away from his first love - theatre.
"I'm happiest rehearsing a play or editing a movie, and when I've finished editing a movie I generally want to be back in a theatre environment again." So that's likely where he'll be heading, but first there's the not-at-all small task of bringing together another massive action film in the edit, and one which will be releasing in just three short months.
In other news, apparently the theme song has been written and performed and recorded - it's all in the bag but Mendes isn't saying anything. "I can say that the song's been recorded and it's fantastic and I'm very excited about it. You won't have to wait long," said the 49 year old.
