People Can Fly, the developers of Bulletstorm and Painkiller, is now an independent studio once again after breaking away from Epic.

Bulletstorm dev breaks from Epic – Could there be a Bulletstorm 2?

The company was previously rebranded as Epic Games Poland in 2013. People Can Fly’s press release says that “Ownership of the company… has returned to the local leadership to reflect the team’s desire to create their own games.”

People Can Fly is still working with Epic, contributing to Unreal Engine 4 as well as the upcoming Fortnite and other unannounced projects. The team has also said that it will use the Unreal Engine 4 to create an "entirely new" unannounced game.

Interestingly, in the credits section of People Can Fly’s website, it says that it developed and owns the IP of Bulletstorm. The game was published by EA, but People Can Fly held onto the IP, which means that we might see a long-awaited sequel at some stage in the future.

Bulletstorm was set up for a follow-up adventure packed with creative swear words and violence, but clearly sales figures didn’t merit a sequel. Now that People Can Fly is an independent studio, it will have more freedom to pursue projects that might not rake in the cash.
