WhatsApp for Windows Phone adds voice calls
The app has been updated to add this feature. Now, according to the WhatsApp Windows Store page, you can “call your friends and family using WhatsApp for free, even if they’re in another country.”
Voice calling has been available for quite a while, but Windows Phone is finally catching up. It was available to Android and iOS users earlier this year, and BlackBerry owners have been able to call contacts through the app since April.
The voice calling service on WhatsApp for Windows Phone is only available on devices with version Windows Phone 8 or higher. The app also notes that you can’t contact emergency service numbers through it.
If you are planning to use WhatsApp’s voice calling, be aware of your data usage. The AndroidPit test revealed that calls made through WhatsApp could use 1.3MB of data per minute on LTE. This figure could also go as low as 600KB per minute, but it’s still worth keeping an eye on if your data is precious.
