This fake Shenmue 3 Indiegogo wants to steal your money
We couldn't be more excited about the fact that there's currently a Kickstarter campaign running for Shenmue 3 - the sequel to a game series we thought died way back in 2001. It's going to be absolutely immense and you really should back it with all of your monies right now.
The campaign has already reached nearly $3 with 30 days to go so it's set to be one of the biggest gaming Kickstarters of all time and we can't wait to see what other goodies they have in store as stretch goals. But unfortunately this kind of media attention also has drawbacks, like opportunists looking to scam money out of fans.
An Indiegogo page has popped up also titled Shenmue 3. It has the same text and content as the Kickstarter, right down to the perks, and is looking for $1.5 million to help get the game made. And it's absolutely and completely fake.
The creator Charles Xavier has no connection to the production of Shenmue 3 and isn't verified in any way. He's leaving the campaign under 'Flexible Funding' which means any money that's earned will go to the creator, even if it falls far short of the total.
Right now, the campaign has no funders, no comments and not a cent earned and hopefully it will stay that way until Indiegogo manage to get it taken down.
Don't be fooled, always check that you're backing an official campaign by seeking out the comments and doing some investigating into the people behind it before contributing any money!
