Photos are more popular with filters
Yahoo and Georgia Tech researchers studied photos on Flickr to understand how filters affect photo engagement, “specifically social engagement such as favourites/likes, comments, and views.” They found that filtered photos are 21% more likely to be viewed and 45% more likely to be commented on.Before you rush off and slap any old filter on a photo, they also found that the filter chosen can have an effect. The researchers said, “Filters that increase contrast and correct exposure can help a photo’s engagement, and filters that create a warmer colour temperature are more engaging than those with cooler colour effects.”Whether you’re a serious hobbyist who wants to apply colour correction or manipulate certain colours, or a more casual photographer, the right filter can make all the difference. And as we all know, a picture posted online is only as good as the number of likes and comments it gets!
