It was always going to be tricky to develop a smartwatch that didn’t have to be charged every day. But Swatch is hoping that it can develop a solution. The company is working on a battery that would help smartwatches last up to half a year.

Swatch Group CEO Nick Hayek said that they’re working on a “revolutionary battery." It’s being designed with a specific purpose in mind. Apparently, it will power a new line of smartwatches that’s due out next year.Hayek said, “Whoever brings a battery for a smartwatch to the market that you don't need to charge for six months has a competitive advantage.” Well, it’s hard to argue with that.He also revealed that the battery will be applicable for use in cars from day one.Swatch has dipped its toe in the water of the smartwatch market. It released the Touch Zero One earlier this year, a wearable with Beach Volleyball in mind. Here’s hoping the six-month smartwatch is more generally purposed.
