Batman: Arkham Knight will be darkest in series - given M rating

Batman: Arkham Knight has been slapped with an M [17 or older] by the US ratings board, the ESRB. This makes it the first in the trilogy to get such a rating.

The ESRB gave Batman: Arkham Knight this rating because it features "blood, language, suggestive themes [and] violence." It doesn’t seem that out of the norm for a Batman game then…There are a few particularly mature scenes that may have bumped up the age rating.Rocksteady founder and game director Sefton Hill told IGN that he had received an e-mail from Warner Bros. about these scenes. But, he explained, "They were key scenes! We couldn't lose them!"The two previous games in the Batman trilogy had a Teen rating. Hill didn’t give specific examples as to how Arkham Knight will be more mature than its predecessors, but gave an overview of why the rating is what it is.“As the end of the trilogy, we have every villain in Gotham working together to destroy Batman," Hill said. "It's unavoidable that some bad stuff is going to happen. But that doesn't mean we changed our approach. We're not including gratuitous blood or swearing. We want to deliver a true end with no compromises, and it takes us to some dark places."Batman: Arkham Knight will be released on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in June.In Short: Batman: Arkham Knight was given an M rating by US ratings board, the ESRB.
