Housing planning approvals drop 15% due to pandemic disruption

Approved housing units numbered 18,113 across the first six months of 2021. Of these, 11,138 were apartments and 6,975 were houses, according to CSO figures

The near total lockdown of the country for the guts of the first half of the year led to a marked decline in planning approvals for residential property and a huge slowdown in housing supply as a result.

The number of residential properties to be granted planning permission in the first half of this year fell by more than 15%, year-on-year, new figures from the CSO show.

In total, approved housing units numbered 18,113 across the first six months of 2021. Of these, 11,138 were apartments and 6,975 were houses.
