Engineering firm Entegro set to create 100 jobs after deal for renewables specialist ACEL Energy

Infrastructure engineering group Entegro plans to create 100 jobs after completing the acquisition of renewable energy specialist ACEL Energy.

The deal will see Entegro form a new entity, Entegro Energy. Entegro plans to scale its workforce from 200 to closer to 300. Revenue at Entegro has grown to over €60m, with plans to take the company to over €100m in the coming years.

Entegro is headquartered in Kilkenny and operates across Ireland, the UK, and the United States. Founded in 2018, in 2024 it became part of the Kyntus Group, a French communications infrastructure group with global operations. Entegro's core business is the design and build of fibre and telecommunications infrastructure. Entegro is a delivery partner in the National Broadband Ireland programme.

ACEL Energy is an engineering-led renewable energy company specialising in solar PV, battery energy storage, and demand management. The establishment of the new entity Entegro Energy will bring complementary capabilities in delivering renewable generation, battery storage, and high-voltage infrastructure solutions across Ireland and overseas, said Entegro Group CEO John Rooney. 

The acquisition also builds on Entegro’s established partnership with high and medium-voltage engineering specialist Nahanagan Electrical. "This is another milestone for Entegro as we continue to build a multi-utility business across telecoms, power and infrastructure to meet the demands of Ireland and beyond," said Mr Rooney.

“Entegro has always sat at the heart of critical infrastructure, so moving into energy is a natural next step rather than a departure. Bringing ACEL and Nahanagan together gives us the ability to design, commission and run energy systems end to end, from an Irish base and with a trusted team that keeps growing. That is the future we want to help build, and to build well.”

ACEL Energy was founded in Monaghan in 2022 by Barry Sherry and Declan McDonald, who will now join Entegro. ACEL Energy’s previous projects include partnering with the Shannon Airport Group to deliver a 1.2MW ground-mounted solar PV system.
