Limerick-based company language interpretation software firm Translit has merged with a UK languages group in a deal completed for an undisclosed amount.

Translit will join the UK-based Valorem Group and subsequently merge operations with another member of the consortium called DA Languages, a Manchester-based provider of interpreting services.

The deal will allow Translit to create 40 jobs by the end of 2025, 10 of which have already been filled, and its current chief executive Alex Chernenko will remain at the helm of the firm.

Mr Chernenko, originally from Ukraine but is living in Ireland, previously hinted at substantial growth plans for his firm while speaking to the Irish Examiner at Web Summit last winter where he said he was working on a strategy to grow his staff from around 23 employees to 30 in approximately six months.

Translit was founded in 2009 but the business grew substantially in recent years amid demand among refugees that entered Ireland after fleeing war.

Mr Chernenko said his company has successfully bid for several high-profile contracts, including work for a number of government departments in Ireland, which led to company revenue growth.

“We won one of the largest interpreting contracts with the department of social protection,” Mr Chernenko said at Web Summit.

Mr Chernenko said Translit won contracts in worth an excess of €7m in a three year period.

Translit previously acquired rivals, Instant Translation in 2017 and Modern Polyglots in 2018 with the aim of become a leading global player in interpreting and translation.
