Following the increased investment into EVs, other firms have secured deals including Cork company Ohme’s contract with securing Swedish car brand Polestar earlier this month.

Electric vehicle charger installation company ePower has raised €2m in funding from private investors which the company said will be used to expand the business further.

The Cork-based company, which was founded in 2018, supplies and installs electric vehicle chargers in homes, businesses and the public buildings across the country.

“The government wants 940,000 electric vehicles on the road by 2030, so there will be huge demand for charger infrastructure in the near future,” said ePower CEO John O’Keeffe.

The oversubscribed investment round will be used to fund further development of the company’s product offering, as well as providing additional resources for its sales and marketing teams.

The Government has recently ramped up its investment into EV charging installation to entice the purchase of more environmentally friendly cars. In July, the government pledged to invest €15m from the EU Just Transition Fund into an electric vehicle charging scheme.

ePower has benefited from the increasing interest in EVs as this year it completed the installation of 90 EV charge points at 13 hotels run by Windward Management, including the Radisson Blu Dublin Airport, Connemara Coast Hotel, Aghadoe Heights in Co. Kerry and Harvey’s Point in Donegal.

Following the increased investment into EVs, other firms have secured deals including Cork company Ohme’s contract with securing Swedish car brand Polestar earlier this month.

Meanwhile, electric car makers such as Tesla rival company BYD have expanded into the Irish market as consumers veer more towards environmentally efficient options.
