Motor industry calls for independent body to regulate car insurance prices

The Government is being urged to do more to reverse a surge in car insurance prices.

Premiums are reported to have gone up by more than 70% since 2013.

The motor industry has issued a warning saying the rise in costs is showing no signs of easing.

The Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) wants to see an independent body set up to regulate the situation.

There are about two million drivers in Ireland.
