Cost concerns regarding new runway for Dublin Airport

Concerns are being raised about cost over runs at the new runway for Dublin Airport.

The runway is now expected to cost €320m.

Ryanair Chief Michael O'Leary has said the facility - expected to be completed within 18 months - should be cheaper than originally planned for and not more expensive.

He says the new Minister for Transport needs to ensure the DAA doesn't waste money on the venture: “These guys like everybody else in the Government bureaucracies, waste money that isn’t necessary.

“While we support the runway, we are not supporting a 70m cost.

“In fact in the way building cost have gone in the last two years actually the cost should have gone down.”
