Mobile phone operators under pressure to end roaming charges

There has increasing pressure on mobile phone operators to reduce roaming charges quickly.

The EU has ruled that the charges should be abolished by next year.

Some operators have opted to start reducing costs sooner.

Bart Lehane is CEO of Killbiller - an app that details mobile phone usage across various plans - has said we should start seeing costs coming down.

“April will see the next and final decrease in decrease in fees,” said Lehane.

“Where the most you’ll be able to charge is €5 extra per call, 2c extra per SMS and 5c per MB of data. So fees should be going down across the board when you are roaming within the EU.

“Obviously if you go outside the EU it’s still open season.”
