Experts think Ireland's Construction Sector will see major rise, but is still playing catch-up

Economic experts are predicting that the Irish Construction Sector will grow by double digits in 2016.

John O'Regan from the Consultancy firm Aecom says this growth will be worth around €15bn in the coming year, to the Irish economy.

He does not believe this will trigger another boom bust cycle and says we are just playing catch-up in terms of demand.

Mr O'Regan said: "The important point is that construction output, even in 2016, will probably only be around €15bn. And what that compares with is a level of output that you would expect in a mature economy like Ireland to be around €20bn.

"So in terms of the overall level of output, we are certainly not producing too much in the way of construction."
