Ryanair has announced a new route from Dublin to Athens from next March.

The airline has said there will be 85 new routes in total operating from Dublin airport next year, including new services to Amsterdam and Vigo.

The Athens service will run three times weekly.

The new route follows news from Aegean Airline that it will fly directs from Dublin to Athens for summer 2016.

This route will fly, twice weekly, from June 20 to September 19.

Ryanair’s Robin Kiely said: “Ryanair is pleased to announce a new Dublin route to Athens as part of our Summer 2016 schedule,

"Which also includes a new 4 times daily service to Amsterdam and a new twice weekly service to Vigo, with 85 routes in total, which will deliver 12m million customers p.a. at Dublin Airport, where Ryanair has single handedly delivered 60% of the total passenger growth this year.
