'High speed broadband for rural Ireland' vouches Minister White

The Minister for Communications Alex White has said that the Government will deliver high-quality broadband to rural Ireland.

A pilot programme will be run in the village of Ratheniska in Co Laois, the home of this year's Ploughing Championships.

The scheme has been trialled in Sligo and Dundalk - but the government want to try to access more rural areas now.

Minister Alex White has said the Government will support private ventures to provide broadband where necessary

“We are not here to make promises, we are here to show how we are delivering, Minister White said.

“Because we are delivering broadband, there is a massive level of investment now from the private sector in broadband.

“We are backing that up now with a state intervention to ensure in the areas where the private sector can’t effectively make a profit the state will intervene and the state will ensure high speed, high quality broadband is available to people in rural Ireland.”
