Former Clerys workers to hold further protest outside O'Connell Street store

Former workers of Clerys in Dublin will hold a protest outside the iconic department store on O'Connell Street this afternoon.

One hundred and thirty staff and more than 300 concession workers lost their jobs when Clerys went into liquidation in June.

The workers are demanding a meeting with the store's liquidators KPMG, after they were told there were no funds to pay redundancies. The full cost of the layoffs must now be paid by the State.

The protest will take place between 12 noon and 2pm.

Staff were told in June that the company's new owners, the Natrium consortium, had put the store into liquidation amid multimillion euro losses.

The business dated from 1853. The current building dates from 1922, having been completely rebuilt after the 1916 Easter Rising.
