CAP 'benefits us everytime we eat', Tullamore Show crowds told
European subsidies for farmers are paying off for the industry and Irish consumers, according to the Irish agri-food educational body Agri Aware.
The body is launching an awareness campaign later at the Tullamore Show to explain the benefits of the Common Agriculture Policy, which they say provides good quality, affordable food for consumers.
Chairman of Agri Aware Richard Moran said: "We all pay for CAP... It's important people realise we benefit from it three times a day (when we eat).
"Every time you eat, you want to think you're getting good food that's environmentally safe and not damaging anything. It's good for tourism and good for communities."
The Tullamore Show is expected to draw crowds of up to 60,000 people to Co Offaly later. The day is billed as "the ultimate country lifestyle event".
