Ryanair passenger numbers up 16%

Low-fare airline Ryanair carried an increased number of passengers last month.

A total of 9.5m people flew with the Irish airline in May – a 16% rise on the same month last year.

In the 12 months ending May 2015, Ryanair carried 93.1m passengers – a 13% increase on the previous 12 months.

Meanwhile, more UK based passengers will be able to check the punctuality of flights from their local airport following an announcement by the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Until now, the CAA has monitored punctuality at 10 UK airports, but the authority will now be checking the on-time performance of flights at 14 more locations.

The airports newly covered are Aberdeen, Belfast City, Belfast International, Bournemouth, Bristol, Cardiff, Doncaster Sheffield, Durham Tees Valley, East Midlands, Exeter, Jersey, Liverpool, Leeds Bradford and Southampton.

The ones already monitored are Birmingham, Edinburgh, Gatwick, Glasgow, Heathrow, London City, Luton, Manchester, Newcastle and Stansted.
