Honohan: Crisis management is over; it's time to go

The Governor of the Central Bank Patrick Honohan has said he is leaving the job a year early, because it's the right time to go.

Mr Honohan is to depart by November six years into his seven-year appointment.

He said he informed the Finance Minister Michael Noonan of his decision in the first week of April, and denied that there was any dispute with the Government or with anyone else.

Governor Honohan said the country was out of crisis management and so it was the right time to go.

"It's a time of change and transition," he said. "The crisis management phase is over; we're into a phase of repair and consolidation now."
