Former AIB chiefs to appear before the Oireachtas Banking Inquiry

The Oireachtas Banking Inquiry steps up a gear today as it is due to hear from former AIB chiefs Dermot Gleeson and Donal Forde.

They will be questioned about banking systems and practices, and the appropriateness of the relationship between the Central Bank, the Financial Regulator, the Department of Finance and banking institutions.

The inquiry has compelled both Mr Gleeson and Mr Forde to attend.

Chairman Deputy Ciaran Lynch says they want to find out more about the roles of both Dermot Gleeson and Donal Forde.

"We'll be engaging to get an understanding as to their roles in AIB, both at the timer of the guarantee but also in the lead up to that crisis period," he said.

"What decisions were they making as senior personalities in the bank, how the business model or the bank was actually operating, their role in the guarantee, their view as to the appropriateness as to how the guarantee was finally actually placed."
