Plain-packaging bill for cigarette packets being considered today
The bill to bring in plain packaging on cigarettes is being considered at committee stage this afternoon.
The Minister for Children and Youth Affairs James Reilly will attend the Dáil's sub-committee on health to discuss the issue.
The proposed legislation would remove all branding from cigarette packets.
Health sub-committee chairman, Deputy Jerry Buttimer said: "It sets out to control the design and appearance of tobacco products and packaging, meaning all forms of branding will be removed and all packets of cigarettes will be in a plain neutral colour, except for the mandatory health warning and other items provided for by law."
