Russia's central bank has announced a huge rise in its interest rate in an effort to shore up the country's troubled economy.

Russia's central bank has announced a huge rise in its interest rate in an effort to shore up the country's troubled economy.

The rate shot up from 10.5% to 17%.

The Rouble has seen its value plunge over the past year, following sanctions imposed because of Russia's actions in Ukraine, and falling global oil prices.
