Former Obama economic advisor brands Irish bank guarantee ‘stupid’

US President Obama's top economic advisor during the financial crisis Timothy Geithner has said Ireland was "stupid" to guarantee the banks.

According to the Irish Independent former Treasury Secretary Geithner made the comments in interviews for his upcoming memoirs.

Mr Geithner added the previous Irish coalition could not afford to guarantee a banking sector which was eight times the size of our economy.
