ICTU calls for return of wage-setting mechanisms

The Irish Congress of Trade Unions is calling for the restoration of wage-setting mechanisms in key sectors of the economy such as construction.

ICTU says it would halt the race to the bottom in wages and standards, and help to restore some protection for workers' livelihoods.

Congress vice-President Patricia King made the comment in an address to the Joint Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation this afternoon.
