Payments company Stripe, from Limerick-born brothers Patrick and John Collison, has been announced as the international payments partner for RTÉ's global Gaelic games streaming service GAAGo.

The announcement, made at the Dublin Web Summit earlier today, means Stripe will handle the payments for all transactions on the service, from single-game amounts to season subscriptions.

"John and Patrick Collison are a great example of GAAGo’s target audience," said Múirne Laffan, Managing Director of RTÉ Digital.

"They represent the young Irish, who are forging their own path abroad but who want to still stay connected to Ireland no matter where they are in the world."

A season pass for the entire GAA season for every Senior Championship in both hurling or football costs €110. Individual games currently run between €10 — €14.

The service is not available within Ireland – where the games are available free – but is targeted at Irish emigrants across the world. Five months after its launch, it has customers in 150 countries.

Stripe, launched in 2011, has quickly become a major internet payments provider. It initially offered a robust developer API that allowed card payments to be processed without visiting a third-party site, making it widely popular.

It now employs more than 150 people, and in January was valued at $1.75bn.
