BOI boss due before Oireachtas committee

Bank of Ireland will be pressed to follow the lead of AIB and KBC Bank later today by offering long-term solutions to those in mortgage arrears.

CEO Richie Boucher comes before the Oireachtas Finance Committee today as part of its overview of the banking sector.

The Committee will also meet with the heads of the AIB, Permanent TSB and Ulster Bank in the coming weeks in order to establish how the banks are dealing with customers in mortgage arrears.

Committee Chairman Deputy Liam Twomey says they want to make sure that the banks are giving people every opportunity to hold on to their homes.

"First and foremost we want people to go to the banks, and then we want the banks to be realistic about what can be achieved in helping people," Deputy Twomey said.

"There has been a lot of solutions reached, whether it's split mortgages or new terms on the loans.

"What we really want is to make sure that the banks are giving people every opportunity to hold onto the family home."
