New EU governance rules to be discussed at Clare conference

New EU governance rules and their impact on the Irish economy will be discussed at a conference in Co Clare tonight.

The economic governance framework aims to detect, prevent, and correct problematic economic trends across the EU.

One of the speakers, Dr Stephen Kinsella from the University of Limerick, said he would be telling those in attendance that despite some policies, EU membership is good for Ireland.

"I'll be talking about why we shouldn’t be listening to some of the policy decisions from Europe, but also how in the long run being part of the European Union is nothing but a good thing for Ireland," he said.
