Consumers urged to hand over electrical waste to licenced recyclers

Ireland is making inroads on its electrical recycling targets.

Europe wants 65% of all electrical waste to be recycled through authorised systems by 2019.

Last year, we recycled 25,000, or 45%, of electrical waste.

However, there is concern that some unauthorised collectors are removing components from the electrical waste and not disposing correctly of the remainder.

Chief Executive of WEEE Ireland Leo Donovan said: "We're encouraging consumers to make sure that when they hand over their applicance, it is to an authorised recycler."
