Jobs Minister 'not aware of any large-scale job-loss announcements in the near future'

Jobs Minister Richard Bruton says he is not aware of any large employers planning restructuring that could see redundancies or imposed pay cuts.

It follows the Bausch and Lamb Plant in Waterford laying off hundreds of staff and the remaining workers having to take large pay cuts to save the plant.

Richard Bruton says his Department has an early warning system that goes on to assist people who are made unemployed.

"Where, despite best efforts, jobs are still lost, my Department works with other Departments to ensure that services are made available to workers to clarify their entitlements and to develop other opportunities for those affected," he said,

"It's an overall process, involving many State stakeholders, works well.

"It is continuously learning and responding to the changing global environment.

"As of now, I'm not aware of any such proposed large-scale restructuring which may arise in the near future."
