Government to invest €60m in Waterford wood factory

The Government has announced investment of almost €60m in a wood factory in the South East.

The investment at the Smartply facility at Belview, Waterford Port in South Kilkenny, will support over 400 jobs directly and indirectly.

The plant will be upgraded and a new innovation centre will be developed on the site.

Smartply, a subsidiary of Coillte, currently employs 160 people.

It uses forest thinning to manufacture building products for export to 32 countries.
