Staff bonuses making comeback - survey

A number of companies are once again paying staff bonuses in a bid to keep them.

Industries that have re-introduced the perks include banking, retail, and construction.

A survey by CPL recruitment has recorded increases of up to 3%.

CPL's Anne Heraty said the trend to reintroduce bonuses was most notable in the construction sector.

"We've had a lot of emigration in this sector, and not a lot of people coming into the sector," she said. "We're coming off an exceptionally low base in construction, but it is one of the areas where we're seeing demand starting to rise.

"If you're skilled and have knowledge of the new regulations and such, they're the kinds of things that are important in terms of pay."
