Waterford workers in talks over cost-cutting at Bausch and Lomb

Staff and management at Bausch and Lomb in Waterford are to enter talks on Tuesday over cost-cutting measures at the plant.

200 jobs were cut yesterday while a further 900 jobs are on the line if staff don't accept a 20% pay cut.

The company have been based in Waterford since 1980 and employs mostly local people.

CEO of Waterford Chamber of Commerce, Nick Donnelly says the cuts will have a devastating impact on people and the local economy.

"The profile of the workforce is very much Waterford orientated, which means the people that work there are spending their money locally."

"Our view would be that the loss of 1100 jobs in total – it would be devastating, It's unthinkable…. Minister Burton needs to intervene in this situation."
