More areas included in Govt map for regional aid

A new regional aid map outlining parts of the country where the State can provide investment aid to businesses is being launched today.

The plan, which aims to target employment in certain areas, is expected to take effect from July 1.

It has been drafted by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation under the new EU guidelines.

County Kerry and towns including Kells, Athy and Arklow have all been added to list of areas fully eligible for government aid.

Jobs Minister Richard Bruton said: "In practical terms, this means that when you're trying to swing investment in a boardroom, you can offer additional support in certain parts of the country."
