Irish Banking Federation: House purchases dominate mortgage approvals

Almost 1,500 mortgages were approved in the three months to the end of February.

The Irish Banking Federation has said of the 1,494 mortgages approved 93% were for house purchases.

The approvals mark an increase of almost 33% on the same period last year, although there is a month-on-month fall of 5.9%.

The total value of the mortgage approvals was €252m.
