Exploratory talks between the Dublin Airport Authority and ICTU to try to avoid a strike over pension issues have ended without agreement.

In a statement, the DAA said the Irish Congress of Trade Unions failed to engage in any meaningful discussions, as SIPTU threatens industrial action next month at both the DAA and Aer Lingus.

The dispute is over plans to cut benefits for employees and those who have retired, because of a deficit of nearly €800m in the pension scheme.
