Frozen food chain Iceland revealed slower UK sales growth as it suffered amid “intense” competition from supermarket rivals and the impact of the horse meat scandal.

The group, which has 790 stores across the UK, posted a 1.1% rise in annual like-for-like sales in a marked slowdown on the 6% hike seen the previous year.
