Heathrow to clamp down on airplane noise

Heathrow Airport in London is to rank airlines according to how noisy their planes are as part of a drive to make the airport quieter.

Bosses plan to significantly increase fines for companies who break noise limits and to trial new plane departure routes.

The airport is also considering introducing steeper approaches for planes and the establishment of a new noise insulation scheme for nearby homes and offices.
