Co-op latest to drop Silvercrest as burger supplier

The British supermarket chain Co-Op is the latest to drop Silvercrest as a supplier of frozen burgers- after finding 17% horse DNA in a burger produced by them.

The sample is the second largest trace found behind a Tesco sample which featured 29.1% horse DNA.

This morning Tesco confirmed it has ended its €15m contract for frozen burgers with Silvercrest as a direct result of the recent horsemeat scandal.

But it will continue to buy fresh Irish beef worth more than €100m from other ABP companies.
