The markets are enjoying a bounce on the back of US politicians' move to avert the 'fiscal cliff'.

A boost in overnight trading in Asia has been replicated in many parts of Europe, including Ireland.

The US House of Representatives last night approved a Senate bill which meant the economy can avoid the effect of a €500bn shockwave.

However, some experts are warning it has just patched up the problem and is not the real solution.

Bill Nicholson from USA Today said there are still major issues to be fixed.

Mr Nicholson said: "We still have these hanging clouds of a huge deficit, but also we need to increase the borrowing limits.

"Republicans once again are angling to try to force President Obama to make a lot of spending cuts in return for Congress approving raising the debt limit."
