New figures show 43% drop in new car sales this month

New car sales are down for the fifth consecutive month, according to figures from Motorcheck.ie.

The figures, which include registrations up to June 28 of this year, show this month has been the worst so far this year with a drop of sales currently running in excess of 43%.

The latest statistics show that sales are down 12.5% for the entire year to date, when compared to the same period in 2011.

Up to 39% of all new cars this year were registered to a company.

Co-Founder of motorcheck.ie, Shane Teskey, said people are holding onto their cars for longer now.
