Frankfurt airport strike action halted

A union representing striking ground workers at Frankfurt airport today said it will halt its action ahead of an expected resumption of negotiations.

Matthias Maas, of the GdF union, said the strike will be suspended with the start of the night shift on Wednesday. He said negotiations could restart as soon as Thursday.

The union had planned to strike through to Friday to press its demands for more pay from airport operator Fraport AG.

The strikes, which began last week, have led to the cancellation of hundreds of flights and delays at the airport, Europe’s third busiest, which sees some 1,300 take-offs and landings on a daily basis.
