Matalan ad boosts festive sales

Clothing company Matalan has put a surge in sales in the run-up to Christmas down to its festive television advert.

The fashion and homeware retailer said like-for-like sales in the five weeks to December 31 went up by almost 10%.

The company said it delivered its best sales week to date during the period, beating its previous record in 2005.
