Staff spend an hour per day gossiping, says UK study

Most people spend at least an hour every day gossiping, mainly at work, according to a UK study.

A survey of 2,000 UK adults showed that social network sites Facebook and Twitter were the main source of rumours and conversation topics.

Seven out of 10 of those questioned by Florida's Department of Citrus, admitted they gossiped for at least an hour every day, mainly about work colleagues.

Lucy Mapstone, celebrity editor of MSN, said: "Sharing juicy gossip is a way for us to escape the monotony of our everyday lives, so we shouldn't feel guilty about doing it.

"Although celebrity gossip continues to grow in popularity, this research shows that we actually spend most of our time gossiping about our colleagues, which is not surprising given that we spend most of our time in the workplace."
