Harvey Norman chain 'committed to Ireland'

The Harvey Norman chain of stores his today reiterating that it is in Ireland for the long haul.

The Australian electrical and furniture brand has total losses in this country of around €107m.

Their chief executive in Ireland Blaine Callard has today expressed frustration at the Government's Budget decision not to ban upward-only rent reviews.

Callard said that the support of a profitable parent company is a strong asset for their business.

"Our balance sheet is the envy of most retailers worldwide," he said.

"So we're very well-positioned to be able to weather the storm.

"We've been very clear over the years that we're committed long-term to Ireland. We're here for the long haul."
