SIMI reports 1.6% rise in new car registrations

There was a 1.6% rise in the number of new cars registered last year.

Figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry show 89,900 vehicles were bought in 2011.

Toyota is still the most popular brand, with more than 11,000 sold.

However, Volkswagen has overtaken Ford to second space.
