Property consultants CBRE have said that pedestrian footfall on Dublin's Grafton Street has risen by almost 10% compared to the same quarter last year.

Property consultants CBRE have said that pedestrian footfall on Dublin's Grafton Street has risen by almost 10% compared to the same quarter last year.

They released the finding in their latest pedestrian footfall study of Dublin’s prime shopping streets.

The study also shows that footfall on Henry Street has risen 2% compared to this time last year.

According to CBRE, an average of 19,403 pedestrians per hour were recorded on Henry Street during peak shopping periods on Saturdays during Q4 of this year, with an average of 22,660 pedestrians per hour recorded on Grafton Street during the period.

Evan Ryan from the research department at CBRE said: "Despite the fact that the retail sector is going through a very difficult time at present and the fact that consumers are being extremely cautious, our analysis shows that footfall on both Henry Street and Grafton Street is up compared to this time last year.

"However, we have to remember that last years Q4 numbers were depressed due to the severe weather conditions."
